Education

Primary education is compulsory in the town and is managed by the District School Board Satara. The municipality pays its contribution on the basis of 5 per cent. of the annual letting value. There was one High School owned by a private institution called the Seth Gangadhar Makharia High School. There were two private libraries, the Frere Library and the Petit Library. The municipality use pays an annual grant of Rs. 450 to Petit Library.
